The Planned Parenthood health center in West Islip has reopened after a 10-month renovation and expansion.

Owned and operated by Elmsford, N.Y.-based Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, the health center at 180 Sunrise Highway is now 3,882 square feet, nearly double its former size. The renovated West Islip Planned Parenthood, which first opened in 1994, now has six new private examination rooms.

Services available at the West Islip health center include birth control, gynecological exams, prenatal care, HIV testing and counseling, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, abortion care, and gender affirming care.

“We are thrilled to continue to offer patients high-quality and compassionate care at our West Islip health care center, now in a more modern, updated facility, custom built to best meet the needs of our patients and staff,” Vincent Russell, president and CEO of PPHP, said in a written statement. “This expansion will allow us to provide vital health care services to more patients in Suffolk County.”

While the West Islip location is the latest PPHP health center to undergo facility improvements, PPHP has also renovated its centers in Riverhead, Huntington, Smithtown, New Rochelle and White Plains centers within the last six years.

Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic provides sexual and reproductive healthcare in 10 health centers and two mobile health centers in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Suffolk counties. In 2022, PPHP provided services to over 27,000 patients in nearly 45,800 visits, according to the statement.
